The Eternal city is probably the most fascinating city in the world, it is impossible to count all the artistic and historic treasures it has to offer, and it is also impossible to plan on seeing everything in one stay, but here are 5 things you should not miss:
- The Pantheon. Now used as a church, this 1900 year old building was originally built for the romans to worship all the pagan gods. The Pantheon is a great way to get a feel for classic architecture, to visit one of the world's most beautiful churches, all in one building.
- Trastevere. This charming neighborhood is just across the Tiber, it still has that "medieval village" feeling to it, you can find beautiful churches, good food, and meet people from all over the world , in a friendly atmosphere.
- The Colosseum. This is probably the symbol of Rome, and doesn't need to be introduced.
It's a great way to understand the scale ancient Romans were able to build, almost 2000 years ago, and it is still there, breat-taking every time you look at it. - Carbonara, Amatriciana, Gricia. These are not sites but dishes. A must do while in Rome, as local cuisine is simple, yet delicious.
- The Vatican. The core of Christianity, but not only. A spectacular collection of art, from statues like the Pietà by Michelangelo, to paintings, architecture.
